Implant placement
Implant placement means putting a body-compatible fixture into the jawbone so a replacement tooth can later rest on it.
What this service is
The fixture is usually titanium or a similar compatible material and takes the role of a root. Its strength depends on bone gradually attaching to it, which can take several months. General health, including conditions that slow healing, and tobacco use matter more than age alone.
When it may be considered
It is considered when one or more teeth are missing and the bone and gums can support a fixture. Active infection, uncontrolled gum inflammation, or untreated medical conditions may need attention first.
The general process
A clinical exam and imaging are done, and the treating physician’s opinion is sometimes needed. The fixture is placed in the bone. After healing, a connector and a crown or prosthesis are made. A temporary replacement may be used until the final piece is ready.
Care and notes
Soft food is often suggested for the first days. Do not disturb the area with the tongue or a harsh brush, and avoid tobacco. Report pain or swelling that is increasing. This is not a treatment with a guaranteed one-visit finish.
