Implant-related surgery
Implant-related surgery includes placing a fixture, grafting at the same time, or adjusting the gum and bone around an implant.
What this service is
This is separate from the crown itself. It may be only placement of the fixture, uncovering a fixture that healed under the gum, or care for inflammation around an older implant. Each one has a different incision and aftercare.
When it may be considered
Not enough bone, a fixture still covered by gum, or inflammation and bone loss around an existing implant. Vague pain alone does not decide which surgery is needed.
The general process
Imaging and a gum exam are done. Surgery is usually under local anesthetic. Stitches, if used, are often dissolving. When a replacement tooth can be attached depends on fixture stability and may not be the same day.
Care and notes
Eat soft food on the other side for a few days. Do not scrub the area, and stop tobacco. A little thin bleeding can occur, but continuous bleeding or fever needs a call the same day.
