Oral examination

An oral exam reviews the teeth, gums, soft tissues, and how you chew, even when nothing hurts.

What this service is

Some decay and gum disease start without symptoms. A regular exam helps a small problem be seen before it becomes painful. The right interval differs from person to person, and the dentist sets it.

When it may be considered

For a periodic check, before cosmetic treatment starts, or when a new bad taste, spot, or sensitivity appears. If it has been more than two years, do not wait for pain.

The general process

Relevant medical history is asked, the teeth and gums are examined, and imaging is taken if needed. The same day may only explain a treatment plan, with no procedure.

Care and notes

Bring a list of your medicines. Between visits, continue fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth. A mouth sore that lasts more than two weeks should be seen separately.
